2010-11-07

Oriental Daily News reported that the Hong Kong Polytechnic University spent two years and successfully developed the Hand Robotic Training Device to help stroke patients easily practice for the opening and closing of palms at their own will and recover their hand function. Light and portable, the robotic device enables patients to easily carry it around and achieve functional daily living.

HKPU Associate Professor Raymond K.Y. Tong said that HKPU has conducted scientific trials on ten voluntary stroke patients, finding that most of patients achieved better recovery than expected. Of these patients, one who has suffered from not being able to open his hand for three years, was able to flex his fingers and smoothly open his hand after the training. Up to now, at least one public hospital plans to introduce the new systems for the rehabilitation of stroke patients.
